New on the Audio Page for today:

Joe Trenca remembers his rookie season with the ESS and talks about the work they are doing.
Bobby Hackel talks about his pair of Sportsman Championships and his move up to a big block.

It was another brutally cold day on Central New York as single digit temps are the norm. And our school district had a one hour delay giving the busses a little more time to warm up after a tough day on Wednesday.

I have a youth theme going today with a couple of teenage drivers who are racing against drivers twice their age. One made the move up last year while the other is getting ready for a big move this year which will more than double his horsepower.

In the can is a chat with Chad Phelps that will air tomorrow and I have a few people to get ahold of today as I have been playing phone tag a lot. And I’ll be at the DIRT Motorsports Hall of Fame & Classic Car Museum on Saturday morning as a guest on Joe Marotta’s radio show which will be originating from the HOF. So come on out and see us if you’d like.

Now let’s chat more about what is new for today on the Audio Page. I begin with a teen who is ready for his second year in the tough 360 Sprint Car ranks. Joe Trenca remembers his rookie season with the ESS and talks about the work they are doing. He told me when he started to get more comfortable in the car, which type of track he tends to do better on and why they are changing their look a little for 2013.

Bobby Hackel talks about his pair of Sportsman Championships and his move up to a big block. He told how tough it was just to make the show at Albany Saratoga, why he was a little more relieved on Saturdays at Lebanon Valley and the new chassis he is working on back at the shop.

New on the Audio Page for today:

Ryan Susice talks about his first two indoor TQ Midget races and how his go cart days helped.
Brian White tells me about his five win season and how optimistic he is about the coming season.

I had a busy day on Wednesday as I did some running around in between writing and doing some interviews in the studio. I visited my friends at Bowman Auto Repair and got to see what they do on a daily basis and the special project they have out back. Boy that 71 Chevelle is going to look great. Can’t wait to see it when it is done!

On the site we have a pair of racers on for you today. Once has been doing some racing already this year while the other is busy changing a few things around as he gets ready. I’ll be back in the studio today too so be sure to come back tomorrow to see who we get ahold of.

And this Saturday I will be a guest on Around the Tracks with Joe Marotta as we record from the DIRT Motorsports Hall of Fame & Classic Car Museum. It is always great to spend an hour with Joe and this time I am bringing both my kids and my wife Camille along. It will be a great day and feel free to stop by to say “hi” and see what this great place has to offer. I hope to see you there.

Now let’s chat more about what is new for today on the Audio Page. I begin with a man who now has a new type of racecar on his racing resume. Ryan Susice talks about his first two indoor TQ Midget races and how his go cart days helped. He told me how the opportunity came about, how much he is looking forward to Atlantic City in February and how his Modified stuff looks right now.

Brian White tells me about his five win season and how optimistic he is about the coming season. He talked about a change he made under the hood, when he found a good baseline set up and how much he is looking forward to getting back on the road on the ROC Sportsman Tour.

New on the Audio Page for today:

Lance Yonge told me why he decided not to retire and remembers another time when he almost quit.
A.J. Bernys remembers his second year in a Small Block Super and his first win in the division.

It was a cold one alright on Tuesday as we spent most of the day in the single digit range. And from where we were in Liverpool, New York, we could see the huge lake effect snow band just a few miles to our north. And the forecast for that area for Tuesday night into Wednesday was between 1-2 feet! Yeah, that’s right…feet.

So we wish everyone well as they are getting pounded up north. But not to worry…these are hearty souls who live in these persistent lake effect snow bands and they know how to deal with. But even so, we wish you all the best!

On the site today are two interviews for you to enjoy and both of them were recorded before my daughters and I headed out to watch a basketball game. And with my wife working a lot of nights, you may see me with them at the races even more as I will either have to take them with me or stay home. Fortunately they enjoy it so that will not be an issue although I will have some phone calls to make to the tracks. Let’s hope they are all sympathetic to my plight or like I said, I’ll have to stay home.

A.J. Bernys remembers his second year in a Small Block Super and his first win in the division. He talked about his up & down season in 2013, evaluated where he needs to improve and recaps his very first night in the car back in 2010.
Now let’s chat more about what is new for today on the Audio Page. I begin with a man who had a tough decision to make over the last few months. Lance Yonge told me why he decided not to retire and remembers another time when he almost quit. He explained what role his daughter had in his return this year, how big the number 30 was in his decision and thinks back to his very first night in a Sprint Car back in 1993.

New on the Audio Page for today:

George Cushman remembers his Daytona testing in December as the ARCA opener approaches.
Bret Belden talks about the Always a Champion program and what fans can do to help him win.

We’re back again today with a stock car feel to the site as we chat with a New York State ARCA driver and a local Pro Stock racer who is trying to land a big sponsorship. I hope you like both of these.

And it is a reminder of course that the season is fast approaching as the Rolex 24 takes place this Saturday and Sunday at Daytona. This is always a favorite of mine and I will need to clean out my DVR to get ready for this one. I have always loved the road course at Daytona as I have raced it on several video games over the years. And yes, I’ll get some laps in again prior to this weekend to remind myself of the course.

East Bay Raceway and Volusia are right around the corner too so your local race shops are teaming with activity right now. So I need to know who is going, so if you are send me an email at doug@dougsdirtdiary.com and we’ll tell everyone all about it.

Also, I am trying to reach John Ferrier and have called him several times. If you know John, please tell him I am looking to chat with him and have him contact me please.

Now let’s find out more about what is new for today on the Audio Page. I begin with a man who will be a part of Speedweeks once again this year on the events biggest stage. George Cushman remembers his Daytona testing in December as the ARCA opener approaches. He talked about some issues he had before the test, explained why he was down a little on the time sheet and why he feels his car races better than it will do in qualifying.

Bret Belden talks about the Always a Champion program and what fans can do to help him win a $5,000 sponsorship. He also told me about the new car he is working on, what he didn’t like about last year’s car and how this new car is coming along. To vote, go to his website at www.bretskiracing.com

New on the Audio Page for today:

Steve Poirier talks about how his injured knee is doing as he gets ready for a trip to East Bay.
Eddie Strada tells me about his experience at Motorsports 2013 and his family’s racing history.

It was a windy day on Sunday as a front moved through our area. We only lost power for a split second and hopefully you guys weathered it ok as well. I spent the day watching football as I did three interviews in the studio. Two of those are up and my Bret Belden chat will air tomorrow along with something from today.

Some of you will have a day off today so I may try to get some extra work done and take advantage of that. If you are around and want to chat, send me a message on facebook or hit me with an email at doug@dougsdirtdiary.com.

We welcome someone new to the site today and that request came right from facebook. Eddie Strada is new to the site today so be sure to give his interview a listen and wait to be surprised at how well this young high school freshman does. These young people today do well in these situations and Eddie is no exception.

Now let’s chat more about the new interviews for today on the Audio Page. I begin with a veteran driver who is hoping to race more this year than he did in 2012. Steve Poirier talks about how his injured knee is doing as he gets ready for a trip to East Bay. He told me what he is doing to stay in shape in the off season, what he is working on in his shop and why he feels an early trip to Florida is needed.

Eddie Strada tells me about his experience at Motorsports 2013 and his family’s racing history. He talked about the non winged Micro Sprint series he will follow this year, how consistent he was in 2012 and the need to be a little more aggressive he needs to be at times. This young man speaks real well for age 15 doesn’t he?

New on the Audio Page for today:

Danny Tyler talked about the ride he landed for Accord in the Joe Grasso owned #19 Modified.
Chuck Bower recapped his strong finish at the end of 2012 and told me about his new chassis.

It was a balmy day in Central New York and from what I heard it was a great day at Motorsports 2013 in Oaks, Pennsylvania. You only have one more day to go so make sure to get there today if you have not yet. And go to www.aarn.com for more info.

We’re back with a pair of Modified drivers on the site today. One has some news about a ride (his first ever with another car owner) and another long time Modified shoe that has a second car for this coming season.

We only did a quick hit yesterday as we were getting ready for some SU basketball. I’ll be back in today and am looking to load up as I often do on this day. So give me a call or message me and I’ll work you in.

And a big thanks goes out to NYTECH Supply company for their continued support of this website. They have been a sponsor with us for quite some time and we are super happy to have them renew for another season. Thanks so much Tony! We’ll be talking to you this week for sure.

Now let’s chat more about what is new for today on the Audio Page. I begin with a man who must be smiling ear to ear today! Danny Tyler talked about the ride he landed for Accord in the Joe Grasso owned #19 Modified. He told me how the idea first came about, when the solidified the deal and how excited he is to be in this car for Friday nights.

Chuck Bower recapped his strong finish at the end of 2012 and told me about his new chassis. He talked about how good he was at Fulton after the new clay was added, where he feels he needs to improve at Brewerton and described how each of his Modifieds look right now.

New on the Audio Page for today:

Dave Gruel tells me about his season driving a Super Modified and what he is working on now.
Chris Busta thinks back on racing two tracks weekly and wonders if he needs a new chassis.

It was a snowy day and a busy one for me as I my wife worked a couple of jobs leaving me lots of time with the kids. We had a fun dinner after I got my work done and then watched a movie. It was a lot of fun.

We’re back today with a conversation from yesterday and one that I did right before dinner time last night. Plus we’ll be back in the studio today looking to get a lot done for you guys for tomorrow. We have a lot of requests to go through but are always looking for more so keep them coming both on facebook and at dou@dougsdirtdiary.com.

Now let’s chat more about what is new for today on the Audio Page. I begin with a man who was busy doing some bodywork when I called him Thursday. Dave Gruel tells me about his season driving a Super Modified and what he is working on now. He talked about how strong the class is right now, how great it felt to get a winged win for a long time car owner and remembers one very scary night. Whew!

Chris Busta thinks back on racing two tracks weekly in 2012 and wonders if he needs a new chassis. He told me how much work it took to run on Fridays & Saturdays, how close he came to a win at Albany Saratoga and runs down the economics of getting a new racecar.
