New on the Audio Page for today:

Danny Varin talks about getting ready to run his Modified and Sprint Car Sunday at Utica Rome.
Brent Ayers described the new racing surface he was at the Outlaw Speedway practice on Friday.
Bill Shea previews the Utica Rome opener on Sunday and talks about the move to DIRTcar.

It was a cold and rainy day in Central New York and it sounds like we’ll have one more of those days before the weekend gets here. The good news is that it should be out of here early on Friday so we’re hoping it does not mess up our race plans.

I have a pair of interviews up for you today as we get closer to the weekend and closer to full capacity in the local racing world. Each weekend now more tracks will open and by May we’ll be at full song and have more races you can go to than you can shake a stick at. I never quite got that phrase did you?

Now let’s chat more about what we have for you on the Audio Page for today starting with a man who will have a very busy day this Sunday. Danny Varin talks about getting ready to run his Modified and Sprint Car Sunday at Utica Rome and tells me what is different with his Modified and the same with the Sprinter.

Brent Ayers described the new racing surface he was at the Outlaw Speedway practice on Friday, ran down his 2017 race plans and how he grew up at the track watching his dad race.

Bill Shea previews the Utica Rome Speedway opener this Sunday and tells me how the DIRTcar sanctioing has been recieved as well as why they moved the start time up to 4 p.m. for the first two shows.

Brandon Smith talked about his goals for the practice and the updates he did to his IMCA Modified.
Tony Harris explained why he had an old school number on his car and why it is significant to him.

We enjoyed a nice day off on Tuesday and will be back at it in the studio later today. I can’t tell you how Tuesday’s practice went for us as I wrote this up on Monday night but I will have a Doug’s Thoughts on it tomorrow so look for that and more as we get busy again today.

We’ll also be trying to get everything straight as we look ahead to a busy weekend starting on Thursday as Sprint Cars visit Outlaw Speedway. I’ll be on the road with the kids tomorrow so I may miss that but will be at Outlaw Speedway on Friday. I’m looking for suggestions for Saturday so send those along if you have time.

So happy for you guys!

Brandon Smith talked about his goals for the practice at Outlaw Speedway, the updates he did to his IMCA Modified during the off season and described how tough it was to drive last year.

Tony Harris explained why he had an old school number on his car, why it is significant to him to keep that number on the track and an experiment he was trying at the practice.

Jim LaRock told me about his modified he had at the practice and the limited laps on the car.
Tony Veneziano reports on the World of Outlaws as they visited the Lone Star State for 3 races.

Today will be a fun day for us as we’ll be practicing with Allie over at the New York State Fairgrounds as she’ll get her second day inside the Jon and Michell Kuleszo owned open wheel microd. She needs as many laps as she can get and we hope to really get her comfortable in the car ahead of this Sunday’s opener.

I’ll be off for that but will be back tomorrow with more from my Friday practice at Outlaw Speedway. It is going to be a fun weekend and it will get started early as Outlaw Speedway gets going on Thursday and Friday of this weekend. I should be at Friday’s show with an outside chance of making it on Thursday but we’ll see how it goes.

Sparky Hills talks about racing an IMCA Modified at 82 years old and his early days in the sport.
Chris Silvers remembers his “terrible” season in 2016 and what he did to try to change that for ’17.

We hopes you all had a nice weekend and were able to get out and smell some racefuel at your favorite racetrack. I only got out on Friday night but it was great to see some of you again and catch all the sounds and smells we all love so much.

I’ll be back in the studio again today and we’ll have a new column up for you tomorrow on Syracuse/com and inside the Syracuse Post Standard. The kids are off this week so we’ll try to get a few road trips under our belt and find some cool things for them to so during Spring Break.

New on the Audio Page for today:

Brady Fultz got ready for some practice and talked about racing his big block at different tracks.
Shawn Bruce explained what he did to his championship IMCA Modified for the 2017 season.
Todd Stone told me why his car had no graphics yet and how he ripped the side off in practice.

Well yesterday didn’t turn out like I had hoped as rain washed out my plans to take a trip to Canandaigua for a 50 lap Modified race. I checked the Facebook page for the track at 1:40 and they were still on but just a few minutes later the bad news came…rained out!

It was quite the bummer because as I looked at the radar I saw it was just going to keep moving east right towards Fonda Speedway. I waited a little longer and watched the radar before bailing on the back-up plan as well. I went and got some things done and then checked their website…rained out.

So I reached into the can from yesterday and that is what we have for you on the Audio Page for Easter Sunday.   Brady Fultz got ready for some practice with his small block and talked about racing his big block at some tracks he raced back in his Sportsman days.

Shawn Bruce explained what he did to his championship IMCA Modified for the 2017 season and what he hopes all those changes will do to his racecar at Outlaw Speedway.

Todd Stone told me why his car had no graphics yet, described what it will look like when it is done and how he ripped the entire right side off in practice.   Oh man!

New on the Audio Page from the Outlaw Speedway practice:

Steve Glover told me about his familiar Sprint Car and his hopes to run more shows in 2017.
Phil Yaw talked about last season in an IMCA Modified and how long it has been since he’s won.
Erik Fisher described his goals for the practice and some of the history of his small block Modified.
Donnie Lawson showed off his first ever brand new car and spoke about racing with his son.
Dale Welty talked about some battle damage on his car from his first race of the 2017 season.
Brian Fish prepared for his first laps in over a decade and explained why he is back in the car.

I had a great time last night as I got to smell race fuel, get dirty and the other things that go with dirt track racing. It was great to see some of you that I haven’t seen in a while and meet a whole lot of new racers as well. Really I had a great time.

I also got to see all the new clay on the track at Outlaw Speedway and it was impressive. Turns 1 and 2 are a whole new ballgame with lots of banking and lots of room both on entry and exit. I watched the first set of hot laps with a few Modified drivers and they all smiled when I wasn’t looking as they observed the new conditions. It’s gonna be a fun year at Outlaw Speedway guys and gals!

As I said I have a lot of new people that I spoke with that I will probably save till sometime during the week as I hopeful that today will be a good weather day and I can go to Canandaigua as a 50 lap Modified race headlines the show there. They raced there last night and Matt Guererri won the Sportsman feature.

Now let’s chat more about what we have on the Audio Page from the first practice of the year at Outlaw Speedway. Steve Glover told me about his familiar Sprint Car, his hopes to run more shows in 2017 as and the second car he has to run of the shows at longer tracks.

Phil Yaw talked about last season finishing fifth in an IMCA Modified at Outlaw Speedway how long it has been since he’s won and the things he would like to see his racecar be better.

Erik Fisher described his goals for the practice, some of the history of his small block Modified and the need to get the car a little looser on corner entry.

Donnie Lawson showed off his first ever brand new car at the Outlaw Speedway practice and spoke about racing with his son as well as some of the little things associated with that first drive. Good one here for those of you who have never driven a Mod/Sportsman.

Dale Welty talked about some battle damage on his car from his first Sportsman race of the 2017 season as well as what went wrong in his first Modified race of the year at Orange County.

Brian Fish prepared for his first laps in over a decade at the Outlaw Speedway practice and explained why he is back in the car and how much his family had encouraged his return. We’ll check back with Brian again soon I hope and finish getting to know him better.

New on the Audio Page for today:

Alan Johnson talks about Saturday’s Modified race at Canandaigua and his 2017 race plans.
Pete Demitraszek previews Saturday’s opener at Fonda and today’s racecar inspections.
Dean Catlin tells me about Skyline’s busy day on Saturday with a flew market and practice.

The long wait is going to over for a lot of people today with a couple of events in our area with more to come tomorrow. Canandaigua begins a two day show tonight with wingless 360’s headlining and a 50 lap Modified race on Saturday. Plus Outlaw Speedway has a practice ahead of their two day opener starting next Thursday.

Allie and I will go to Outlaw as I love early season practices as the vibe is low key and we can get a lot done and speak with a lot of racers. And now that Allie has a practice of her own under her belt she now has a much better idea of the questions to ask. It’s gonna be fun.

Not sure what I am doing on Saturday yet as we do have some things with the kids earlier in the day. So if I can get out I will surely try to do so and if not we’ll just get busy in the studio instead. We’ll see and hope at the same time for a dry day.

Now let’s chat more about what we have for you today on the Audio Page starting with a racer who is going to get in his third race day of the season tomorrow. Alan Johnson talks about the car he’ll bring to Saturday’s Modified race at Canandaigua, the second car he is working on for Friday nights and his 2017 race plans.

Pete Demitraszek previews Saturday’s opener at Fonda Speedway, tells me some of the people who are expected to come to race and reminds racers about today’s racecar inspections beginning at 2 p.m.

Dean Catlin tells me about Skyline Raceway’s busy day on Saturday with a flew market from 8 a.m. till noon and practice taking place immediately after that.
