New on the Audio Page from Canandaigua Motorsports Park:

After the heat races:
Bob Buono pulled away to win his Street Stock heat and told me why winning later would mean a lot.
Anthony Kimble won the first Sportsman heat race and talked about who he heard in the closing laps.
Dave Marcuccilli explained how he came from fourth to first in seven laps and why his suit was tight.
Ricky Newton led every lap to win his Sportsman heat and spoke about his hopes for a feature win.
Lance Dusett picked up his first ever Modified heat win and described why he was off early in 2017.
Steve Paine was the third different leader as he won his heat and talked about a recent engine issue.

After the feature races:
Bob Buono explained why he really wanted to win his feature as they honored Gary Montgomery.
Kevin Ridley made a late race pass to win the Sportsman race and talked about his first of 2017.
Justin Haers described the pass he made in the final set of turns to win the Modified feature race.
Gary Tomkins lost a heartbreaker and explained why he was only able to race at half throttle late.
Alan Johnson finished in fourth place and described a combination change they made for the race.
Derrick Podsiadlo led some laps before finishing fifth and explained why he was happy on this night.

We had a great time last night as we went out to Canandaigua Motorsports Park to honor a great friend in Gary Montgomery. A lot of people from Gary’s life including family, friends and co-workers were on hand to talk about Gary, how much we miss him and how much he gave to the sport of auto racing. We miss you Gary!

Gary would have loved the racing too as the Modified feature came down to a last corner pass as Justin Haers snuck by the inside of Gary Tomkins to take the win. Haers tried a few slide jobs in turns one & two earlier but made the power move down low in the final corner to get the victory. Afterwards, as you can hear on the audio page for yourself, Gary had an overheating issue and was nursing the car around hoping to save the hot engine.

Kevin Ridley got by Paul Guererri with five laps to go and held on after a green and white finish to earn his first victory of the season. Bob Buono got an emotional win and one he really wanted as he knew Gary Montgomery very well. It was a fun night from top to bottom and it was great to see a lot of people I had not seen in quite some time.

Allie rode out with Joe Marotta in his SSR and I have a few photos up from that was well as lots of other things I saw and experienced in my night at The Land of Legends. Allie sung the national anthem, scored and then ran the My Laps computer for the Sportsman and Modified races. Thanks Donna, Gary and Sheila! To say she had fun would be an extreme understatement.

Today we start out with Allie racing in the Open Wheel Microd class at the 1/10 mile asphalt track at the NYS Fairgrounds. And yes I’d be lying to you if I said I was not totally happy that she is racing there as the storied location that once housed the one mile track. I love that she is racing there and that racing is still taking place in Syracuse. As for the mile and how that was handled…don’t get me started.

After that we’ll be doing our No Rain Dance as we hope the fourth time in the charm in Weedsport as we are doing the Sportsman race for the next Speedway Showcase. Plus wingless 360 Sprints are on the card too so it will be a fun day.
Don’t forget that Utica Rome is also running and they have an extra treat as they have double Modified races as the Mod feature rained out last week. If you haven’t been this year it would be a great one to see as you get some extra racing for your money.

No rain and let’s have a great Sunday guys!

New on the Audio Page for today:

Chris and Katelyn Hile talk about racing on track and working on racecars as a married couple.
Rich Vleck previews the next Speedway Showcase from Ransomville Speedway airing June 30th.
Allie Elkins recaps her race night Thursday at the New York State Fairgrounds where she finished 5th.

We had a rainout on Friday night so we got some work done in the studio and watched a movie as a family. It was a fun night and one that was made extra special as both the kids are now on summer vacation. It’s gonna be great and it will surely be a summer to remember as we have lots of fun things planned.

On the site today we have two chats I recorded yesterday and one I have been holding on to for a day just like what we had on Friday. I’m going to turn the Hile story into a piece for the Syracuse Post Standard and Syracuse.com so look for that one to show up soon.

Allie and I will be going to Canandaigua today for the Gary Montgomery Tribute race. I spoke with his brother Dick on Friday and can’t wait to see everyone later today. It will be a fun night but a tough one too as we miss Gary so much. He influenced me in so many ways as I treasure the time I got spend with him both at the track and away from it. We miss you terribly Gary!

Now let’s chat more about what we have for you on the Audio Page for today as we get ready for what they say is going to be a beautiful day. Chris and Katelyn Hile talk about racing on track and working on racecars as a married couple as well as how the sport keeps them together and what they think when the other has a wreck.

Rich Vleck previews the next Speedway Showcase featuring the Patriot Sprint Tour from Ransomville Speedway which begins airing on Spectrum Sports statewide on June 30th.

Allie Elkins recaps her race night Thursday at the New York State Fairgrounds where she finished 5th and explained what she learned from a problem early on, her spins in the heat and how tough it can be to run a caution free 25 lap feature.

New on the Audio Page for today:

Pete Bicknell talked about win at Ransomville and gives racers some great tips on set-up & tires.
Ben Bushaw tells me about his pair of races at Skyline that included a win and a fifth place finish.
Josh Reome walks me through his Sportsman feature win at Can Am and looked to a weekend off.

We had a fun day as Allie and I went racing at the 1/10 mile asphalt track at the NYS Fairgrounds with the Kuleszo Racing and the Syracuse Microd Club. She had not been in the car in over a month and she finished fifth in a caution free 25 lap feature. She didn’t touch a car all night long and ran probably her fastest laps yet. Great job by all the young people to run without a yellow with a margin of victory at the line of maybe two niches at the most. It was impressive.

I have some photos up from the night and hope to be at Brewerton tonight, Canandaigua for the Gary Montgomery Tribute Night and then the NYS Fairgrounds and Weedsport on Sunday. Yeah…I’ve got a busy weekend in front of me.

Keep your fingers crossed for today although the forecast is looking better. I hope you all get to hit your favorite track this weekend and I hope you all have as much fun as Allie and I did on Thursday. Best of luck to all you racers too. May your cars stay together, may you keep away from contact with others, get a good finish and roll your car onto the trailer with no extra work to do. That is a good night!

Now let’s chat more about what we have for you today on the Audio Page starting with one I know you Mod and Sportsman racers are gonna want to listen to. Pete Bicknell talked about win at Ransomville, his pair of features at Merrittville and gives racers some great tips on set-up & tires. This is a must listen racers…really! The set up stuff starts just before 11 minutes into this clip.

Ben Bushaw tells me about his pair of races at Skyline that included a win and a fifth place finish while offering his first take on the Syracuse Microd Club as he watched them race for the first time.

Josh Reome walks me through his Sportsman feature win at Can Am last Saturday night, looked ahead to a weekend off and Wednesday’s Super DIRTcar Sportsman Series race with the ESS also on the card.

New on the Audio Page for today:

Rob Bellinger shared some memories from his early Modified days and how he learned the big blocks.
Andrew Ferguson describes a tough weekend in his Modified and talked about getting tires right.
Kevin Poitras explains how he went from road racing to Sportsman and how is doing on the clay.

I had a busy day catching up with more chores here at the house, writing a new article for the Syracuse Post Standard & Syracuse.com and getting some new interviews recorded in the studio. And one of those interviews plays off the Andrew Ferguson clip that is up today.

I’ll bet a lot of you racers are struggling with various things right now and tomorrow Pete Bicknell will not only talk about his win last Friday at Ransomville but he’ll also give you guys some great advice on rough tracks, slick tracks and how to get your tires to stop chunking up. It’s stuff you’ll love so be sure to come back tomorrow for that.

Of course I’ll be racing with Allie tonight at the 1/10 mile track at the NYS Fairgrounds. Yep, there is still racing going on at the small asphalt track just like there has been since 1955. There is no admission charge so come on out and see some racing as tomorrow’s forecast does not look as good as it needs to. We pit behind turn two so come on over and say hi.

Now let’s chat more about what we have for you on the Audio Page starting with a look back with one of our area’s talented, young Modified racers. Rob Bellinger shared some memories from his early Modified days, how big the jump is from Sportsman and how he learned the big blocks the old fashioned way…one lap at a time.

Andrew Ferguson describes a tough weekend in his Modified as he worked his way backwards on two occasions and talked about getting tires right. I’ll have advice for him from Pete Bicknell tomorrow.

Kevin Poitras explains how he went from road racing to Sportsman, what some of his favorite road courses were and how is doing adjusting to dirt racing. Welcome to our world Kevin! Glad to have you.

New on the Audio Page for today:

Jeremy Smith talked about racing at Brewerton and Thunder Mountain on two different sets of tires.
Rocco Leone tells me how he has been doing at Brewerton and why he really hoped to do well Friday.
Tyler Thompson spoke about leading a race until late and how he is doing as a driver right now.
Pam Fraser describes what it was like to see the NHRA in person at Englishtown two weekends ago.

I had a busy day on Tuesday as I played catch up here at the house. I have more good stuff up for you today from my weekend and will be in the studio a while today as we have a race night tomorrow with Allie. No rain!

As you listen today I want to make sure you give my chat with Pam Fraser a listen. She married to videographer extraordinaire Mike Fraser and goes to the races with him most nights. Like me she is a life long NHRA fan and finally got to see them in person two weekends ago in Englishtown where I used to go yearly before I got started in dirt racing in 1990.

Pam had never seen the cars in person and I really want you to hear her try to described what it is like. I mean when we first went I knew in my mind how fast these cars were going to appear. I watched drag racing at ESTA as a kid and saw Sox and Martin back in the day. So I knew how fast these cars would be in person. NOT! Check it out and go see these things in person. You won’t believe your eyes and ears.

Now let’s chat more about what we have for you today on the Audio Page as we get ready for a big weekend. Jeremy Smith talked about racing at Brewerton and Thunder Mountain on two different sets of tires while explaining how using two different cars with those tires helps.

Rocco Leone tells me how he has been doing at Brewerton, why he really hoped to do well Friday and described a health issue he had with his father. Take care Pappa Rock!

Tyler Thompson spoke about leading a race until late, how he lost the lead at Brewerton and evaluated how he is doing as a driver right now as he looks for his first Sportsman victory.

Pam Fraser describes what it was like to see the NHRA in person at Englishtown two weekends ago after being a fan who watched on TV for years and reacted to hast fast, loud and powerful the cars are in person. Yeah guys…TV does not do these cars justice!

New on the Audio Page for today:

Danny Creeden talks about his Friday night win at Afton and his fourth place at Thunder Mountain.
Dale Planck tells me what he has been doing as he works behind the scenes in the family business.
Andy Noto explained why he was at Brewerton Friday night and what he was hoping to learn.
Tony Veneziano reports on the World of Outlaw Sprits as they prepare to race tonight in Minnesota.

It was yet another rainy day on Monday but it cleared out nicely by the end of the day. Don’t forget tonight the Super DIRTcar Series visits Outlaw Speedway with DIRTcar Sportsman and the Fight Night Street Stocks joining the show as well.

I have to stay home tonight unfortunately as I’ve got just too many things going on to get away for the third time in five nights. I’m figuring out my schedule for this weekend and will be at two shows for sure. Plus Allie races Thursday and Sunday so we’ll be very busy for sure. But it will be fun!

Now let’s chat more about what we have for you on the Audio Page starting with a winner from the past weekend who went to the track Friday despite being rained out at his weekly home. Danny Creeden talks about his Friday night win at Afton and his fourth place at Thunder Mountain while looking ahead to a Deyo Series race Wednesday at the place he won at on Friday.

Dale Planck tells me what he has been doing as he works behind the scenes in the family business with his son while helping drivers get faster on the track.

Andy Noto explained why he was at Brewerton Friday night and what he was hoping to learn at the track. It was a tough night for Andy as he blew an engine. Darn!

Tony Veneziano reports on the World of Outlaw Sprits as they prepare to race tonight in Minnesota and wonders if anyone has ever won with the Outlaws and then won with the NASCAR Cup Series in the same week.

New on the Audio Page from Weedsport Speedway before the rain:

Larry Wight told me how came from 18th to 1st to record his 2nd Modified win in a row at Fulton.
Kyle Coffey talked about his weekend so far and how he worked his way up from Micros to Mods.
Erick Rudolph recapped his weekend that included a pair of 4th place finishes and a win at Merrittville.
Justin Haers finished 3rd at Canandaigua on Saturday and told me how his season is going so far.
Paul Szmal explained how things went at Outlaw Speedway on Friday and Canandaigua on Saturday.

It was a short day for me on Sunday as Weedsport Speedway was rained out for the fourth time in four tries. We were set to do TV both for the Sportsman and MAV TV for the Modifieds. It started with a gentle rain before hot laps and they pulled the plug with a full screen of weather still to come.

By the time I got home I went to the store and by the time I got out the rain chased me home and it down poured not one more time but twice so if anyone tells you that they could have gone just laugh them off and move on. Man they need a break and hopefully they’ll get it next Sunday.

I did get some interview done before the rain forced us under the pavilion roof for dinner. As I chomped on my favorite, The Port Burger, they announced the show was rained out. Half of those are up today and more will show up tomorrow and during the week. I am planning on Outlaw Speedway on Tuesday and then Allie will get back behind the wheel on Thursday. Yay!

Now let’s chat more about what we have on the Audio Page for you today starting with a winner from this past weekend who is really on top of his game right now. Larry Wight told me how came from 18th to 1st to record his second Modified win in a row at Fulton and looked ahead to Weedsport’s wingless Sprint Car show this Sunday, June 25th.

Kyle Coffey talked about his weekend so far and how he worked his way up from Micro Sprints to Modifieds as well as how tough it is racing against the best in the business. Real good one here!

Erick Rudolph recapped his weekend that included a pair of 4th place finishes and a win at Merrittville while telling me what he plans on doing later this season as well as Outlaw Speedway on Tuesday.

Justin Haers finished third at Canandaigua on Saturday and told me how his 2017 season is going so far while thinking back on some of his past in Weedsport.

Paul Szmal explained how things went at Outlaw Speedway on Friday and Canandaigua on Saturday while looking forward to a big three division show featuring the SDS Tuesday at Outlaw.
