New on the Audio Page from Brewerton Speedway before the rain came:

Shawn Donath won the first ESS qualifying heat race and spoke about how fast the track was.
Chuck Hebing led every lap to win his heat race and described what happened on the first start.
Scott Holcomb talked about his “perfect” Sprint Car early on and his new set of tire bleeders.
Matt Tanner finished fourth in his heat and talked about how hard it was to pass in his heat.
Ryan Dolbear got the win in the first Sportsman heat and told me how well his car runs low.
Zach Sobotka watched his team start to load up his car and talked about his win in heat # 3.
Rich Townsend finished first in the final Sportsman heat and explained why they were loading.

Oh man! It was going to be a lot of fun last night. We had a track that had taken just a little bit of extra rain and overcast skies were keeping things nice and tacky. As the cushion moved up and the laps clicked off the counter the surface underneath kept getting better and better as it widened out. Sure, the cushion was one you had to hit just right but it was going to be a super cool night in Brewerton.

Once we all checked our weather radar as the first rain hit we saw a lot more weather coming from the west. Rochester was getting hit hard and the red on the map was getting bigger, not smaller. We all kind of knew we were in trouble.

But you’ve all been around the tracks a few times like me so we all know that sometimes the blobs get smaller, dissipate and even go away altogether. Not this time. The lightning to the south was impressive and was there for a long time before we got wet a second time. It started slowly just after the Sportsman B-Main and for a while it looked like maybe it would be okay. Nope. Steadier ran fell and that was that.

The good news for the ESS is that they are back in two weeks anyway so that one should be an easy make-up. Now Sportsman, Mod Lites and Four Cylinder will also have races to make up. I’m sure the track will announce those dates real soon.

On to Canandaigua today and up to the booth for me tonight. Weather could be an issue here too so check before you head out and let’s hope for a fun night of racing in person rather than sports on TV. Best of luck to all of you tonight and man what could have been…Let’s hope for better cooperation from Mother Nature today.

New on the Audio Page for today:

Sam Reakes IV remembered his last few starts with the ESS before racing Sunday in Weedsport.
Nick Guererri explained how lost his vision and almost his hood while running second in a heat.
Daryl Barrett ran down what he has been doing with IMSA lately and why he’s now in a Sportsman.
Pete Stefanski spoke about his Street Stock win and how he has been doing with his Pro Stock.

Friday is here and for a lot of us that means it’s time to hit the track tonight. We won’t be racing this weekend but I’ll be at Brewerton Speedway tonight to do some reporting and Land of Legends Raceway tomorrow as I’ll be back in the booth. Fun, fun!

We dodged the storms yesterday as they stayed south of Liverpool but from what we were hearing there were some pretty good ones out there including a tornado warning. Hope you all are doing well and don’t have any damage.

Best wishes and good thoughts are going out to all of you who are racing tonight and we hope your evening goes well. August is a tough time of the year and I know how intense it can get. Breathe deeply and relax. This is fun right? But seriously…be safe, be fast and have fun!

Now let’s chat more about what you can listen to right now on the Audio Page to get your day started or just take a break and relax later on.  Sam Reakes IV remembered his last few starts with the ESS including Freedom & Can Am before racing Sunday in Weedsport as well as how they recently ran out of fuel after a miscalculation.

Nick Guererri explained how lost his vision and almost his hood while running second in a heat race Saturday night at Land of Legends as well as what he did to make sure it wouldn’t happen again.

Daryl Barrett ran down what he has been doing with IMSA lately, how he worked his way into the world of road course racing and why he’s now back in a Sportsman.

Pete Stefanski spoke about his Street Stock win at Ransomville, how he has been doing with his Pro Stock and why he may be at a bit of disadvantage when he runs against elite competition.

It was another beautiful day on Wednesday as I got some studio work done and some busy work as well. I had a nice chat with Derrick Flynn about Allie’s progress as a driver and how things were coming along after a hub issue had us scrambling on Sunday.

I will be at Brewerton Speedway tomorrow as the ESS headlines the show there and we’ll be at Land of Legends Raceway on Saturday to announce in the tower and have fun doing what I did to first get into this sport 30 years ago. It’s gonna be a fun weekend.

Now lets chat more about what is new on the Audio Page for today starting with a young man who is on top of his game right now. Paulie Colagiovanni spoke about his ESS win on Friday at Can Am and why things are going so well for him as a driver as well as the other help he is receiving from a former racer.

Denny Peebles recapped his Friday night at Can Am and explained how he gained spots for a 9th
Kenny Titus won his 1st race in almost a year and talked about he got to the front Friday at Afton.
Jessica Power remembered a feature win from the weekend before and talked about a bad bar.
In the latest Doug’s Thoughts I recap our last weekend of racing in Canandaigua and Weedsport.

I had a nice day on Tuesday as I got some work done in the studio and set up some more things for today. We visited with a friend who has been very instrumental in us being to race with Allie and we truly thank him for all his help. Without you we would never have been able to start two and a half years ago so thanks man!

I’ve got some things set up for later today as we need to get a new fridge. I guess I assumed all these places had quick delivery but two of the big box stores said they could deliver in two weeks. Our fridge is doing nothing as we moved all our food up to the one in my studio and it is jam packed now. Just when you try to get ahead in life right? Boom. No soup for you!

Now let’s chat more about what we have for you to listen to on the Audio Page starting with a winner from this past weekend. Danny Varin talked about his Modified win Saturday night at Fonda, how fast the track was with the ESS Friday night at Can Am and described his hopes for Weedsport on Sunday.

Denny Peebles recapped his Friday night at Can Am and explained how he gained ten spots for a ninth place finish as well as why he had to pass on the ESS show Saturday night in Canada.

Kenny Titus won his 1st race in almost a year and talked about he got to the front Friday at Afton as well as how valuable the help he gets from his son truly is.

Jessica Power remembered a feature win from the weekend before and talked about a bad torsion bar they found and how her two shows went this past weekend at Can Am & Fulton.

In the latest Doug’s Thoughts I recap our last weekend of racing in Canandaigua and Weedsport with the DMNT and go over the nights from my perspective.

Don't forget that Adirondack runs tonight and Woodhull has a special tomorrow night as we wind down the last few weeks of mid week shows. Hard to believe that August is nearly half way done as I really don't know where the summer went. We'll be back tomorrow with a Doug's Thoughts and much, much more.

Now let's chat more about what we have on the Audio Page for today starting with a man who did something this past weekend that he had never done before. Phil Vigneri III recapped his weekend that included his first big block Modified win at Mercer, his 10th place Friday night at Ransomville and ran down where he will race this weekend as well as later in September.

Austin Germinio notched his career best finish in Weedsport and told me what made it so special.
Bob Henry Jr. started off his day in a bad way and explained how it got better with a 3rd place run.

What a weekend it was for us as a family. After a memorable night on Saturday in Canandaigua we all headed to Weedsport on Sunday as the Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tour shared the stage with the Empire Super Sprints and the DIRTcar Sportsman. The whole family went, even dad, and we had a blast at one of the premier dirt tracks in the country.

Most of the drivers with the DMNT had not been to the track since the renovations and they were just blown away by it. And now they just added a new observation deck by turn four as they continue to add amenities seeminingly every time you go there. The comments I heard from the club members were just amazing as they had never seen anything like it. One word summed it up, "Wow!"

I got to do a god amount of pre-race interviews as we were in smooth sailing mode early on and those chats will start showing up tomorrow. And thank you to all of you who came over to give Allie advice. It meant the world to her. I did put up my interviews with the ESS heat winners as well as the top three from the Sportsman feature so when you add the stuff Rich Vleck did on Victory Hill you've got a good amount to listen to today.

As far as our racing goes we had a problem with the car as these things frequently happen so often with any racecar big or small as we learned in our two years in Microds. They are racecars! They get pushed hard! Things happen. And boy am I learning a lot as these things do happen. On Sunday Allie and I learned about hubs. I noticed that the right rear tire was wobbling almost like it had some clay in the rim. I rushed back to the pit, dug my hand into the rim and felt no clay. "Uh, oh" I said.

We took the tire off and had some play in the hub. Since it was the smaller bolts behind it the axle had to come out and everything. It was quite the job. As Derrick said, "We probably could have made it through the night but it was best to deal with it now." or something to that affect. After that we were fine and Allie did a wonderful job. She passed some, got pasesd by many more and saved the car when one of the slower cars tapped her from behind in traffic while putting her a lap down. It was a racing deal. No doubt! She may have even come down. It's hard to say. But she saved it without a wiggle and continued on.

Thanks to everyone who makes this happen especially Derrick Flynn and Pete Stapper who work so hard on this Dodge Challenger Modified. Thanks to Jeff Ciglich for all he does for the club. Mike, Tom, Chef Jim and everyone who makes this all heppen. We are having the best summer ever and could not have done with this without you guys believing in us ans the support by all the fine speedways who have welcomed us into their homes. Thank you!

We'll be busy in the studio today and will put some of those chats up tomorrow as well as some from my weekend. I've got a long list of people to call and if you want to make sure I don't miss you or your favorite driver please send me a message on Facebook or to doug@dougsdirtdiary.com. See you tomorrow!!!

New on the Audio Page for today from Land of Legends Raceway:

Darryl Ruggles talked with me about his win in the 305 heat race and remembered a rough Friday.
Andrew Smith won the first Sportsman heat race and spoke about wanting to see me later that nite.
Mike Stanton described what he was doing in his heat win and the lines he used to pass other cars.
Paul Guererri has been a bit lost of late with set ups and talked about what changes helped him win.
Tim Baker earned just his 2nd heat race win of the season and spoke about turning things around.
Alan Johnson told me what he saw at the bottom of the racetrack as he came up fast to win his heat.
Dillon Groover spoke live to the crowd with me after winning the final Modified qualifying heat race.
Tim Colman won his first Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tour feature and expained why it was bittersweet.
Robert Johnson added to his point lead with his DMNT win and spoke about winning close to home.
Adam DePuy made it 8 wins on the season on Saturday and told me how well his racecar was rolling.
Andrew Smith got his wish with a feature win and told me how his earlier joke ended up working out.
Alysha Baye stayed smooth and calm in her win and talked about getting by some late race traffic.
Matt Sheppard picked up win number 7 in Canandaigua and explained why he was nervous early on.

We had fun as a family as we traveled out to Land of Legends Raceway in Canandaigua. Our friend Mark Sabatine rode with us so we had a packed car as we rolled into the Ontario County Fairgrounds. We were all there because Allie was racing with the Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tour and of course I work there on nights that the tour does not so I got to do my DMNT job as well as my LOLR job too. So yeah, I had a blast getting to announce, do interviews after the heats and in victory lane as well. Fun, fun, fun.

Bad news is that we had our first serious crash on the tour as Nostalgia point leader Scott Gauthier got together with a slower car and flipped violently in turn one. He was sore but okay and that is the good news. But as he loaded his car you could tell that it was in rough shape. We are so happy you're okay Scott and we hope we see you back soon.

Matt Sheppard put on a clinic in the Modified feature race as he stayed low for the most part and came through the field quickly passing improving newbie Dillon Groover. A late race restart with five to go saw Sheppard pull away to win comfortably while Groover fell back to fifth as he continues to impress in his first year as a Canandaigua regular.

Andrew Smith won his first in the Sportsman feauture as he dueled it out wih Paul Guererri late even playing games a little on the race's final restart. He joked with me eariler that he would make it to victory lane and he did. But listen to the interview and you'll see why it didnt happen without a lot of hard work.

As for Allie she looked great in hot laps but fell back quickly from fourth in her heat almost spinning out right after moving up to third. The big, slick surface was challenging for her but she did have her good moments making all her passes on the outside. In the feature however was a moment that I thought was going to be really bad.

She got loose in turn four, turned to the wall, picked up the throttle again, went left before turning right again and got an even better look at that frontstretch wall. Ahhh! She drove out of it while a car she passed earlier went to her outside, took it a little easier and finished the race without a scratch on the car.

Listen to those victory lane interviews and you get a feel for what it takes to win at Canandaigua. And when the track does have "some character" as it did last night it makes it that much tougher. Nice job everyone and we hope to see some of you again today as we race Weedsport Speedway later today.

We are so happy to be racing at the old home of DIRT which is now a show place for the sport and from what we're hearing our car count should be strong. Plus the Empire Sprints celebrate their new Hall of Fame inductees with a special race night while the DIRTcar Sportsman will be showing up with a huge field of cars as they always do at "The Port".

Have a great Sunday everyone and a better day tomorrow. Be safe, be fast and have fun as always!!
