New on the Audio Page for today:

Mike Colsten tells me how his health is these days and why he switched chassis at mid-season.
Donnie Elliott explained why we haven’t seen much of him this year and why his demeanor changed.
Leon Andrus talked about his new role for 2016 as co-promoter at the new Afton Motorsports Park.

I actually had a day off on Saturday as I stayed up late Saturday morning after Penn Can to get the site done for you today. It had been a couple of weeks since I had a day off and it was much needed. If everything went like I hoped I slept late, played some golf and watched some playoff baseball with friends. I will let you know tomorrow if it worked out as well as I hoped. And it has been a few weeks since I golfed so we were not expecting much except some fun with friends.

On the site today I have two really good driver chats that I really hope you listen to. I hope I don’t sound too preachy in the first one with Mike Colsten but his story is amazing and we are so happy he is with us, doing well and racing after getting as close to, well you know, as you’d like to get. And Donnie Elliott has also had his mind thinking some different things too, although not life and death, and he is having a lot more fun at the track these days. Nice!

Plus we get you the news firsthand on what is happening at I-88 Speedway next year including a new team co-promoting it and a new name. So sit back, take a break from the football and let’s talk some racing. I hope you like it.

I do hope to get in the studio a little today and if you had a great weekend or know of someone I should call on the phone for a chat please send me a message to doug@dougsdirtdiary.com and I’ll give it my best shot.

Now let’s chat more about what we have on the Audio Page beginning with a heart-warming story with a man whose life has been changed forever. New on the Audio Page from Penn Can Speedway:

After the heat races:

Mike Schane got the win the 1st Sportsman heat race and spoke about moving from Modified.

won his Sportsman heat by mere inches and talked about running the Mod consi.
Ryan Stone finished second by working up top and told Allie Elkins when he found that line.
Darwin Greene won the first Modified heat race and described how hard he was driving.
Alan Rudalavage talks with Allie after his heat win as she tried to stay up with him in the chat.
Joey Grammes told me about his Modified heat win and why he felt he had to be better later.
Nick Rochinski explained how he won the final Mod heat and who picked the number one spot.

After the features:

Tommy Collins Jr. won a good back and forth battle and spoke about his Sportsman victory.
Nick Grist was victorious in a very entertaining 4 Cylinder race and apologized to second place.
Nick Rochinski picked up his first win of the season and talked about how good his Modified was.
Brian Malcolm finished in second place and spoke about the folks who helped this season.
Danny Creeden spoke about winning the STARS Series championship with his third place finish.

I had a good time last night as Allie and I headed into Pennsylvania for night one of King of the Can Weekend at Penn Can Speedway. A good field of Mods, Crate Sportsman, Factory Stocks and Four Cylinders were on hand and the racing was really good! Three and four wide were commonplace and we really had a great time…but.

When we got back to the car with one more feature to go, and apologies to the Factory Stocks who put on great shows down in the Southern Tier, and the thermometer inside read 35 degrees. Even though it was not freezing a layer of icy dust was on the car. Yeah it was cold! The only other time I have been that cold at a racetrack was when I was spotting for TV on the roof at Syracuse while snowflakes danced around me and my fear of heights overran my concern about the cold. Yeah, it was really, really cold.

But like I said we really had a good time, drank a lot of hot chocolate and met some new folks in the pit area and saw a lot of people I had not seen in a while. We also met a few of you who listen to the site and meeting a lot of you is what really keeps me going when I get tired in the early morning in front of my computer. And you guys say the nicest things and do so in front of my daughter. Thanks. You have no idea how much that means to me.

Action continues today at Penn Can on day two and there are six divisions that are competing including the CRSA Sprints. Plus Brockville Ontario Speedway has a lot going on too so get out and support your favorite track or series before the snow flies which felt on Friday night like it could have been at any minute.

Now let’s chat more about what we have for you today on the Audio Page from a very racy Penn Can Speedway on Friday. Mike Schane won the first Sportsman heat race and spoke about moving from Modified to a crate as well as what the adjustment was like for him as a driver.

Lem Atkins won his Sportsman heat by mere inches and talked about running the Modified consolation race as well as some changes he made right before the race.

Ryan Stone finished second by working on the outside groove and told Allie Elkins when he found that line as well as a problem he had on the second lap.

Darwin Greene won the first Modified heat race and described how hard he was driving as well as why he was being a little conservative while out front.

Alan Rudalavage talks with Allie after his heat win as she tried to stay up with him in this chat. I had to throw her to the wolves here and let her try to interview a guy with more energy than most of us combined. Love ya Al!

Joey Grammes told me about his Modified heat win, why he felt he had to be better later and what it was like to have a new teammate in the 2016 season.

Nick Rochinski explained how he won the final Mod heat as he hoped to earn his first feature win of the season and told me who picked the number one spot for him in the draw.

Tommy Collins Jr. won a good back and forth battle in the GRIT Sportsman finale and spoke about his Sportsman victory while thinking back to last week in Oswego.

Nick Grist was victorious in a very entertaining 4 Cylinder race and apologized to the second place driver as he tried to keep his momentum up on the track.

Nick Rochinski picked up his first win of the season and talked about how good his Modified was as well as how happy he is with the new torsion bars he has in his car. Teo guys…listen to this!

Brian Malcolm finished in second place in the 50 lap Modified feature on day one of King of the Can Weekend and spoke about the folks who helped him this season.

Danny Creeden spoke about winning the STARS Series championship with his third place finish in the finale at Penn Can and wondered if a bounce off the wall hurt his chances at a win.

The work week is done and it is time to go racing again. Allie and I will be at Penn Can tonight for the first day of King of the Can Weekend and we’ll have lots of good stuff up from there for you tomorrow.

Brockville Ontario Speedway is also racing this weekend and the 358 Modified and Sportsman DIRTcar Series titles are on the line.
