New on the Audio Page for today:

Jeff Peebles talks about his crash at the NYS Indoor Championship and analyzes what went wrong.
Paul Cole tells me about the meeting he had with drivers for Land of Legends Raceway for 2017.

I had a nice day on Sunday as I got some work done and spent some time with the family. I also got to chat with racer Jeff Peebles and see how he was doing after his hard crash on Saturday. It seems that everything is going to be okay but he is going to need some time to heal so we wish him and his family all the best this week and beyond.

I have a whole bunch of stuff set up for today and will air some of that tomorrow. I am hopeful to have a day off on Tuesday but you know how that goes. My usual Tuesday activity will be off for about a month and a half or so but we’ll make up for it with lots of other things as we continue to think big picture and think about the future. It’s all good.

It’s all good on the Audio Page today as we begin the week with some news from the weekend on the track and off. Get better soon!

New on the Audio Page from the NYS Indoor Championship practice:

Dave Marcuccilli offered his take on running indoors and remembered losing in Charlotte.
Will Shields tells me about his karting background and talked about racing indoors in Syracuse.
Tyler Brown won the Stock Medium feature race and told me how he led every lap to win.
A.J. Bennitt walked me through his flip in the Sr. Animal feature and explained what happened.
Tyler Thompson led every lap and talked about his win in the Sr. Animal Champ feature race.
Tyler Brown picked up his second win on the day and talked about his Pro 4 Cycle feature win.

It was a wild and scary day at the NYS Fairgrounds for the 25th Annual Indoor Championship as things went off very well except in the Unlimited 4 Cycle feature race when the throttle stuck on the kart of Jeff Peebles and he and his kart crashed through the wooden wall and three rows of metal barriers injuring himself and a young fan visiting from Kentucky with his family.

Fortunately it appears each will be okay but both were transported to local hospitals. I saw some video replays online afterwards and he really was thrown from the kart and hit the wall before his kart did. I had never seen anything like it before.

I’ll be honest…it shook me up a lot as a crash like that was pretty much my biggest fear with Allie running there this weekend. It shook the crowd up a bit too as Peebles was on the ground for a long time before being hoisted onto a stretcher and taken to the hospital. We are praying for his recovery as well as the young fan who was also involved.

I'll have some more on this soon and Allie and I had a long talk about this early Sunday morning as she had troble sleeping. (me too by the way) We just met Jeff a week ago and were taken in by him right away. A cool guy for sure who loves racing and working on anything fast. To see our new friend hurt right before our eyes was...as we both said later...it didn't really happen did it? It happens way too fast sometimes in racing doesn't it. Let's hope everyone feels better and recovers just as fast.

Now let’s chat more about what we have from the event on the Audio Page as we wish everyone the best after yesterday. Dave Marcuccilli offered his take on running indoors on the coke syrup in Syracuse, remembered losing a kart race in Charlotte to a fellow racer and explains why he is not in a hurry to try it.

Will Shields tells me about his karting background and talked about racing indoors in Syracuse while helping a young racer at this year’s event.

Tyler Brown won the Stock Medium feature race at the NYS Indoor Championship and told me how he led every lap to get the victory in Syracuse.

A.J. Bennitt walked me through his flip in the Sr. Animal feature and explained what happened to get him on his side as well as how long the wreck seemed to last.

Tyler Thompson led every lap and talked about his win in the Sr. Animal Champ feature race and told me how the red flag might have helped him pick up the victory.

Tyler Brown picked up his second win on the day and talked about his Pro 4 Cycle feature win, what his mindset was on the track and how cool it was to win this race for his second year in a row.

New on the Audio Page from the NYS Indoor Championship practice:

Denny Peebles tells me about the kart he will race this weekend and how he did in a 360 Sprinter.
Jason Simmons gives me advice on how to stay calm while watching a loved one on the track.
Scott Castor describes the open kart he had in Syracuse and a little of his dirt racing background.
Kevin Ward Sr. analyzes Allie’s practice laps and then Allie tells me what the experience was like.
Rick Martell talks about how well the practice session went and reminds people to stop by today.

We had quite the day on Friday as we were part of the practice day for the NYS Indoor Championships as part of the 6-kart Kevin Ward team. You would not believe the stuff that happens as parts break, engines get installed in the pit area and contact happens on the track.

You can tell these people have been doing this for a while as each kart got the attention it needed while tires were being unmounted, prepped and put back on. Tire pressures were all done at the same time and both Allie and I were amazed at how well prepared they were and how quickly problems were dealt with whether they be big or small.

Allie got in two hot lap sessions and then Kevin went out and shook it down in the last session and showed Allie what that kart can do. It was just flat out impressive as he ran down non-plate engines with a plate. One more lap and he would have been passing them. Allie learned a ton watching him and can’t wait to apply wheat she’s learned today.

We hope to see you at the event as heat races begin at 11:30 a.m. with features going green at about 4 p.m. This is not what you think. There are young racers starting at 7 years old and more than enough gray haired drivers to go around as well plus everything in between. Go to www.syracuseindoor.com for more information and we hope to see you there today!

Now let’s chat more about what we have on the Audio Page as we get ready for a big race day at the NYS Fairgrounds. Denny Peebles tells me about the kart he will race this weekend at the NYS Indoor Championship, how he decided on the right amount of horsepower for this year’s ride and how he did in a 360 Sprinter.

Jason Simmons gives me advice on how to stay calm while watching a loved one on the track while telling me what his plans are for his youngest daughter.

Scott Castor describes the open kart he is racing this weekend in Syracuse, where he raced this past season and a little of his dirt racing background.

Kevin Ward Sr. analyzes Allie’s practice laps, tells me how much he liked the kart when he hot lapped it at the end of the session and then Allie Elkins tells me what the experience was like.

Rick Martell talks about how well the practice session went on Friday for today’s NYS Indoor Championship and encourages race fans to stop by today to see the action live.

New on the Audio Page for today:

Rick Martell previews the NYS Indoor Championship for karts and previews tonight & tomorrow.
Allie Elkins talks about the kart she will drive this weekend and how her Microd laps could help.

A big weekend for a lot of racers starts today with a pair of indoor races on tap. Allie and I will be in Syracuse for the 25th Annual NYS Indoor Championships while some of you will be in Trenton, New Jersey for the Lenny Sammons show on the clay  inside the Sun National Bank Center. Both are going to showcase some incredible talent so be sure to show your support.

I’ve got Allie up today as she talks a little about what she hopes happens this weekend and how her experience with Kuleszo Racing has helped her prepare. I am a nervous wreck I’ll be honest with you but I know she is good hands and know that she’ll be better off for the experience no matter what happens. But still, feel free to tell me to relax if you see me this weekend as I am going to need all the help I can get.

Joe Trenca runs down his hopes for this weekend and looks forward to his first winless race.
Tyler Thompson explains what makes running on the coke syrup at Syracuse so challenging.
D.J. Shuman is heading to New Jersey with a multi-car team and talked about Micro Sprints.

We are here today with four racers who race this weekend at two different venues. The Lenny Sammons dirt show in New Jersey starts tonight with practice so I wanted to give you a lot on that today. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll get some more people running in Syracuse this weekend.

I’m not racing at the Indoor Championship but my daughter Allie is and I am already super nervous. She has been inside a cage all year long and now racing a kart this weekend without one causes me a little stress. But I know she is in great hand with Kevin Ward Sr. as her crew chief so I told her to just do what he says and she’ll be fine. I’m still nervous though.

Now let’s chat about what we have on the Audio Page with three drivers who will race in the first annual East Coast Indoor Dirt Nationals and one who will race in Syracuse.
