It was a cold and rainy day in Central New York on Saturday and I spent it in the studio and at the YMCA with my oldest daughter. I did some interviews in the afternoon, went and shot baskets with her and then finished up my work after dinner. And I will tell you that for someone who could not even hit the rim 18 days ago, Allie is really catching on quickly. She does have the Elkins blood in her you know.
 
Today I will be heading to Penn Can Speedway for their final show of the year. The King of the Can will see lots of the area’s top Modified drivers at the track and all will be going for the $5,000 first prize. So it is going to be a good one for sure as these specials at Penn Can are always excellent.
 
And for all of you north of the border, you have Brockville Ontario Speedway to go to today. The Super DIRTcar Series for both Modifieds and Sportsman is on the card. And one of the interviews on the site today is with a champion as Tim Sears Jr. comes in with enough of a lead that he does not even need to take the green.
 
So be sure to come back tomorrow for some new stuff from Penn Can and of course we’ll be back in the studio this week so it should be a good one to make sure you check in each and every day.
 
Now let’s chat more about what is new for today on the Audio Page. I begin with a man who has several more race weekends to go. Dan Creeden talks about racing today at Penn Can and explains why he prefers an alcohol powered car. He also told me what they have to do to that alcohol motor during the week, how much the handling changes because of the extra weight the car sheds and runs down his late season plans. 
 
Tim Sears Jr. chats about winning the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman title and each type of racecar he drives. He explains what he really likes about Late Models, wonders what he’ll do next year and thanks everyone who helped him win 25 races in 2011. 
 
Paul Szmal runs down what is happening today at Frozen Ocean and describes the facility. He talks about the two types of Micro Sprints that will be racing together, wonders which if any will have an advantage as well as what else is on the card for today.

It was a cold and rainy day on Friday and because of that the Penn Can Speedway rained out the first day of King of the Can Weekend. But fear not racefans, the Friday Modified show has been moved to Sunday and I will have more on that tomorrow you can trust me on that one. And yes, I am still planning on going to Penn Can on Sunday.
 
So with an empty can of interviews staring me in the face, I got busy and recorded five new chats for you to listen to today. And since I am not going anywhere today I will be back in the studio again chatting with people for tomorrow’s Audio Page. So one way or another, we always have something for you.
 
I am hoping that the weather they have been talking about stays away and hoping that we will be okay today as both Penn Can and Brockville are slated to go. But like I said, I’ll be in the studio today and at Penn Can Sunday so you will have lots of new stuff to listen to.
 
Now let’s talk more about what you can listen to right now on the Audio Page. I begin with some people who are racing today. Danny O’Brien gets ready for the 358 series finale at Brockville and tells me how he’ll approach the race. He talked about how surprised he is that he still has a shot at the title, how tough it was to pull off the track at Syracuse and explains why his small block will be very competitive on Sunday against the big blocks. 
 
Steve Poirier talks about his hopes to race his 360 Sprint Car at Brockville’s Northeast Fall Nationals today. He told me how much different the Sprinter is to drive compared to a Modified, how tough it is to drive both on the same night and wonders how much 410 racing he may do in the future. 
 
Ryan Phelps tells me how he flipped his Modified in hot laps and went on to win a few hours later at Brewerton. He explained how he got in an accident in turn one, how badly damaged his car was and how tough it was to watch someone else drive one of his cars at Syracuse. 
 
Shane Pecore described his top six finish at Syracuse, his season at the BOS and a move up for 2012. He told me how much different the mile was this year compared to last, how much he learned as a driver this past season and how excited he is to be driving full time for Warrior Racing next year. 
 
Michael Sanchelli previews Eastern States Weekend and comments on Fulton Speedway’s situation. He talks about some schedule changes for this year’s event, the sprucing up of the facility that he undertook and explains what it means when an ordinance is tabled as happened with the Town of Volney noise ordinance. Good stuff!

Larry Wight was in a jingle in his Friday 358 qualifier and described what happened in turn one.
Billy VanInwegen told me why his car would not take the green in Sunday’s race at Syracuse.
Tim Currier explained why he pulled off the race track during Sunday’s non-qualifiers race. 
Mike O’Brien described his week at Syracuse and talked about racing the mile for the first time.
Aaron Bartemy talked about his season on the asphalt and how good his racecar has been. 
 
We are back with six new chats for today and still hopeful that we will see a race tonight. As I type this up it is Thursday afternoon and the weather is a bit unsettled for today to say the least. So keep your fingers crossed as I am hoping to head to Penn Can tonight. 
 
I have my final interviews up from Syracuse and there are six real good ones up for you guys today. Now remember if Penn Can does rain out, the show for tonight will run on Sunday. And go back a few days to listen to my Paul Kirkland interview to hear what Brockville Ontario Speedway will do it they get wet but they will do everything they can to finish on Sunday.
 
As for me, my equipment is all back up to speed so there should be no audio issues from here on in. I also got some new cables so that should also put us in real good shape for the rest of the year.
 
Now let’s chat more about what is new for today on the Audio Page. I begin with a man who had some tough luck at Super DIRT Week. Carey Terrance changed his pit stall on Saturday and told me how they blew an engine on Friday. He talked about how good the back up motor was in the consolation race, why he feels dropping a few spots on the grid is not a big deal and what that move would do for him.

Mark Flach would start Sunday’s race from 32nd spot and told me about his super tight racecar. 
Rob Bellinger helped get my day started on Sunday and talked about his pit stop strategy.
Travis Braun remembered his 20 lap qualifying race and explained what went wrong in the engine. 
Rob Yetman sat in his Pro Stock on Sunday told me what he did wrong in his qualifying laps. 
 
I had a good day on Wednesday as I did some more interviews in the studio, wrapped up my audio equipment overhauls and wrote up a column for the Syracuse Post Standard. Most of that column was about the meeting tonight at the Volney Town Hall concerning a new noise ordinance which would basically force the speedway to close its gates. 
 
The meeting tonight is at 5 PM at the corner of County Route 6 and State Route 3 and we are urging all racefans to wear your race gear, make signs and make your voice heard. Now of course we need to be respectful but at the same time vocal as these people who know nothing about our sport are trying to shut us down! WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TONIGHT SO PLEASE BE THERE!
 
Also on the site today are some new interviews as well as five from my weekend at Super DIRT Week. I have five more saved for tomorrow and may get more recorded today so be sure to come back tomorrow. And I also have plans to head to Penn Can tomorrow so if Mother Nature cooperates, I’ll see you there. If not, the race will be run on Sunday and yes, I will make it there!
 
Now let’s chat more about what is new on the Audio Page for today. I begin with news on a pair of shows happening this weekend. Paul Kirkland previews the Northeast Fall Nationals this weekend at Brockville Ontario Speedway. He tells me what is on the card for each of the three days, wonders about Saturday’s weather and explains what they’ll do if rain is an issue. 
 
Reed Miller talks about the King of the Can taking place Friday and Saturday at Penn Can Speedway. He explains what they’ll do if they lose the Friday show, what time the Modified race would be on Sunday and how big the Saturday race is as well. 
 
Bobby Varin described how his small block was doing at Syracuse as he got ready on Saturday. He talked about what he learned over the week, how that could help his short track program and how much stuff they have been trying at the mile.

Mat Williamson talked about the day on Saturday and why he was waiting before suiting up. 
Greg Atkins usually runs on the asphalt up north and compared the experience to Syracuse.
Matt Billings summed up how his week went and described some work they did on Friday. 
Corey Wheeler would start way back on Sunday and told me how his Pro Stock was running. 
 
I had a busy day again on Tuesday as I dealt with some things here at the house. We’ve been working on our digital recorders as we had some issues this past weekend and yesterday I got the newer of the two units back while dropping off the original one at the same time. So those issues we had on Saturday and Sunday will be a thing of the past.
 
On the site today are six of my chats from the weekend and I did get some new photos up early Tuesday morning. I should be good to go to Penn Can on Friday so look for me down there and I may even add a Sunday show. Gotta see about that though.
 
It will be sort of a sad day today as I will be putting the Camaro into storage at Bob Bennett’s place. He has a 70 Mustang he has had there and he is going to finish it this winter to he offered the space to me. But at least I had a nice day on Tuesday to take out a few more times.
 
Now let’s chat more about what is new for today on the Audio Page. I begin with a man who was making a last minute change on Sunday. Rich Scagliotta watched his crew work on the front end of his car and told me they were doing. He explained why he felt aero was not important this time around, offered his thoughts on the mandatory stop and what he felt it would change in the show. Small audio issue here. 
 
Bob McGannon explained why they pulled the engine and why they were losing some oil. He talked about how his laps at the end of the consi on Sunday helped, how much he was watching the gauges when he was out there and what he saw on the racetrack. 
 
Mat Williamson talked about the day on Saturday and why he was waiting before suiting up. He described his somewhat uneventful week, how he did in time trials and how his 2011 season has been going on the tour. 
 
Greg Atkins usually runs on the asphalt up north and compared the experience to Syracuse. He talked about the big name talent he races against, how he has to wait for the track to come to him and explained how much different the track was this time around. 
 
Matt Billings summed up how his week went and described some work they did on Friday. He talked about how much better they car got, the wreck he was in during the qualifier and wondered if some aero changes they made in the off season hurt.

J.R. Heffner ate lunch as he got ready on Sunday and described the transitional racetrack he saw. 
Keith Flach shared his thoughts on his week at Syracuse and told me about an off track injury. 
Danny O’Brien explained why he was only going to take a few laps at Syracuse and then pull in.
Roy Bresnahan got ready to race his small block on Saturday and talked about getting a ride.
Brian Swarthout described his week at Syracuse and told me what he was doing Saturday.
Brandon Sweet had an issue with his engine and told me what was wrong with his small block.
Joey Ladouceur talked about his goals for Sunday’s Pro Stock race and how he would approach it.
 
I enjoyed a beautiful day on Monday as I got out in the sun, did some running around and had a great time. It was nice to be able to spend some time with the family after Super DIRT Week and extra nice to have the day we had to do it in.
 
I took my recorder to get it serviced and it was not as bad as I thought so I should be all set to go to Penn Can this Friday. Now I’ll pick that one up today and get my other recorder there for a tune up as well. That clay in the air at a dirt track is not the best thing for devices like that and these tune ups of the equipment are way over due to say the least.
 
On the site today are some interviews that I recorded over the weekend and there are several more to come. Plus as I type this up at 7:30 on Monday, I am putting up some new photos from Super DIRT Week. So keep checking as you never know when new stuff will be added.
 
On a personal note I was able to roll a few balls on the bowling alley on Monday for the first time in almost a year. My left knee is feeling ok and I could be back in the league again as soon as two weeks. I’ve been working it out at the YMCA and am hopeful to get in better shape this offseason.

Danny O’Brien explained why he was only going to take a few laps at Syracuse and then pull in. He told me how tough it is to put the 358 race into his budget, described his wishes to eventually do the race right and broke down what it is that makes it so expensive to run at Syracuse. 
 
Roy Bresnahan got ready to race the small block on Saturday and talked about getting a ride in the Roger Phelps owned car. He told me about getting the motor together for the event, when the car started to get better on the mile and how the morning practice really helped. 
 
Brian Swarthout described his week at Syracuse and told me what he was doing on Saturday. He talked about his strategy for the 150, what his goals were for the day and explained why he was comfortable in the car. 
 
Brandon Sweet had an issue with his engine and told me what was wrong with his small block. He told me what they noticed they had a problem, what he thought was wrong and how good his car has been otherwise. 
 
Joey Ladouceur talked about his goals for Sunday’s Pro Stock race and how he would approach it. He told me about racing the field as well as the driver ahead of him in the points, explained why this day was so important and why if he has to lose the championship it could not be to a better guy.

Pre race conversations:
 
Michael Storms had the nervous stomach as he was on pit road and talked about calming it down.
Andy Bachetti was going to start at the rear of the field and told me about the motor he hurt.
Jimmy Phelps spoke about pit stops and the need to have a clean day on the track at Syracuse. 
Ronnie Johnson walked me through his morning practice and talked about the track on Saturday.
Jimmy Horton described the condition he was dealing with and how his car felt in the morning.
Brett Hearn would start the race from row ten and described what he was dealing with handling wise.
Eddie Marshall explained what he was going to do to try to fix his car that was tight in the corners. 
Mike Perrotte stood by his racecar and told me how much different the racing surface was. 
Chad Brachmann won the “win and you’re in” race and talked about racing without hot laps.
 
After the races:
 
Rocky Warner told Paul Szmal how he found a lane up top and how it helped him get the win. 
Stewart Friesen spoke to the media after winning the 200 lapper for the second straight year.
Billy Decker finished 2nd and told me about chasing the leader and the time he almost got by.
Vic Coffey talked about his third place finish and talked about how his car was on short runs. 
Pat Ward came home in fifth place and told me how good his crew was in the live pit stops.   
 
Super DIRT Week XL is now history and what a week it was. Great weather and exciting racing on a super wide track was what the fans saw and it was great! Congratulations to Stewart Friesen for winning the SEF Small Engine 200 presented by Ferris and Snapper Mowers for the second straight year.
 
It was a lot of fun to watch him and Billy Decker race at the front of the field and there was more than enough drama to go around. The pageantry, the late pit stop and the late race action made this one an instant classic.
 
I did a lot of work recording over two dozen interviews and taking over 150 photos. Most of those interviews are up today although some of them have a small audio issue. I either have a bad cable or a bad jack on my back up recorder so now need to get it into the shop today to fix it. So you may hear a little silence from time to time and that is what it is.
 
All the photos are up today so be sure to go through those and see what I saw as I hung out at Syracuse on Sunday. Now today I am going to lay low and catch up on some sleep as I am whooped from six straight days of nothing but work & racing related activities. I will put up some photos along the way today I’m sure and I will go through my recordings in the can to find some to put up for tomorrow. 
 
It was a great Super DIRT Week and I’ll be back later in the week with my thoughts and thank you’s as there are so many people who helped me do this. But now I need to refresh the equipment here as everything I have is from when I began in 2006. The motor is tired and I need to find the funds needed to freshen it. I’ll get it done though, don’t you worry.
 
Now I am going to get some much needed sleep and spend some time with my family. And as luck would have it, school is off for the next two days so you know I will be making the most of it. Have a great Monday and be sure to come back tomorrow.
