We are back with six new chats for today and still hopeful that we will see a race tonight. As I type this up it is Thursday afternoon and the weather is a bit unsettled for today to say the least. So keep your fingers crossed as I am hoping to head to Penn Can tonight.
I have my final interviews up from Syracuse and there are six real good ones up for you guys today. Now remember if Penn Can does rain out, the show for tonight will run on Sunday. And go back a few days to listen to my Paul Kirkland interview to hear what Brockville Ontario Speedway will do it they get wet but they will do everything they can to finish on Sunday.
As for me, my equipment is all back up to speed so there should be no audio issues from here on in. I also got some new cables so that should also put us in real good shape for the rest of the year.
Now let’s chat more about what is new for today on the Audio Page. I begin with a man who had some tough luck at Super DIRT Week. Carey Terrance changed his pit stall on Saturday and told me how they blew an engine on Friday. He talked about how good the back up motor was in the consolation race, why he feels dropping a few spots on the grid is not a big deal and what that move would do for him.
Larry Wight was in a jingle in his Friday 358 qualifier and described what happened in turn one. He told me what it did to his car to send him to the pits, explained why he chose to pull it in and how important it was to have qualified in the top six.
Billy VanInwegen told me why his car would not take the green in Sunday’s race at Syracuse. He talked about what he felt went wrong, when it happened and explained why what he learned this year will help him down the road.

I had a good day on Wednesday as I did some more interviews in the studio, wrapped up my audio equipment overhauls and wrote up a column for the Syracuse Post Standard. Most of that column was about the meeting tonight at the Volney Town Hall concerning a new noise ordinance which would basically force the speedway to close its gates.
The meeting tonight is at 5 PM at the corner of County Route 6 and State Route 3 and we are urging all racefans to wear your race gear, make signs and make your voice heard. Now of course we need to be respectful but at the same time vocal as these people who know nothing about our sport are trying to shut us down! WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TONIGHT SO PLEASE BE THERE!
Also on the site today are some new interviews as well as five from my weekend at Super DIRT Week. I have five more saved for tomorrow and may get more recorded today so be sure to come back tomorrow. And I also have plans to head to Penn Can tomorrow so if Mother Nature cooperates, I’ll see you there. If not, the race will be run on Sunday and yes, I will make it there!

Paul Kirkland previews the Northeast Fall Nationals this weekend at Brockville Ontario Speedway. He tells me what is on the card for each of the three days, wonders about Saturday’s weather and explains what they’ll do if rain is an issue.

I had a busy day again on Tuesday as I dealt with some things here at the house. We’ve been working on our digital recorders as we had some issues this past weekend and yesterday I got the newer of the two units back while dropping off the original one at the same time. So those issues we had on Saturday and Sunday will be a thing of the past.
On the site today are six of my chats from the weekend and I did get some new photos up early Tuesday morning. I should be good to go to Penn Can on Friday so look for me down there and I may even add a Sunday show. Gotta see about that though.
It will be sort of a sad day today as I will be putting the Camaro into storage at Bob Bennett’s place. He has a 70 Mustang he has had there and he is going to finish it this winter to he offered the space to me. But at least I had a nice day on Tuesday to take out a few more times.

Brandon Sweet had an issue with his engine and told me what was wrong with his small block.
Joey Ladouceur talked about his goals for Sunday’s Pro Stock race and how he would approach it.
I enjoyed a beautiful day on Monday as I got out in the sun, did some running around and had a great time. It was nice to be able to spend some time with the family after Super DIRT Week and extra nice to have the day we had to do it in.
I took my recorder to get it serviced and it was not as bad as I thought so I should be all set to go to Penn Can this Friday. Now I’ll pick that one up today and get my other recorder there for a tune up as well. That clay in the air at a dirt track is not the best thing for devices like that and these tune ups of the equipment are way over due to say the least.
On the site today are some interviews that I recorded over the weekend and there are several more to come. Plus as I type this up at 7:30 on Monday, I am putting up some new photos from Super DIRT Week. So keep checking as you never know when new stuff will be added.
On a personal note I was able to roll a few balls on the bowling alley on Monday for the first time in almost a year. My left knee is feeling ok and I could be back in the league again as soon as two weeks. I’ve been working it out at the YMCA and am hopeful to get in better shape this offseason.

Ronnie Johnson walked me through his morning practice and talked about the track on Saturday.
Jimmy Horton described the condition he was dealing with and how his car felt in the morning.
Brett Hearn would start the race from row ten and described what he was dealing with handling wise.
Eddie Marshall explained what he was going to do to try to fix his car that was tight in the corners.
Mike Perrotte stood by his racecar and told me how much different the racing surface was.
Chad Brachmann won the “win and you’re in” race and talked about racing without hot laps.
After the races:
Rocky Warner told Paul Szmal how he found a lane up top and how it helped him get the win.
Stewart Friesen spoke to the media after winning the 200 lapper for the second straight year.
Billy Decker finished 2nd and told me about chasing the leader and the time he almost got by.
Vic Coffey talked about his third place finish and talked about how his car was on short runs.
Pat Ward came home in fifth place and told me how good his crew was in the live pit stops.
Super DIRT Week XL is now history and what a week it was. Great weather and exciting racing on a super wide track was what the fans saw and it was great! Congratulations to Stewart Friesen for winning the SEF Small Engine 200 presented by Ferris and Snapper Mowers for the second straight year.
It was a lot of fun to watch him and Billy Decker race at the front of the field and there was more than enough drama to go around. The pageantry, the late pit stop and the late race action made this one an instant classic.
I did a lot of work recording over two dozen interviews and taking over 150 photos. Most of those interviews are up today although some of them have a small audio issue. I either have a bad cable or a bad jack on my back up recorder so now need to get it into the shop today to fix it. So you may hear a little silence from time to time and that is what it is.
All the photos are up today so be sure to go through those and see what I saw as I hung out at Syracuse on Sunday. Now today I am going to lay low and catch up on some sleep as I am whooped from six straight days of nothing but work & racing related activities. I will put up some photos along the way today I’m sure and I will go through my recordings in the can to find some to put up for tomorrow.
It was a great Super DIRT Week and I’ll be back later in the week with my thoughts and thank you’s as there are so many people who helped me do this. But now I need to refresh the equipment here as everything I have is from when I began in 2006. The motor is tired and I need to find the funds needed to freshen it. I’ll get it done though, don’t you worry.
Now I am going to get some much needed sleep and spend some time with my family. And as luck would have it, school is off for the next two days so you know I will be making the most of it. Have a great Monday and be sure to come back tomorrow.

After the Nationwide Insurance 150:
Billy Decker spoke about winning this race for the 4th time in a row and the battle into turn one.
Stewart Friesen described the bonsai move he made in turn one as he tried to get under the leader.
Tim McCreadie finished the race in third place and explained how he got a left front flat tire early.
Tim Fuller talked about his fourth place finish and how far to the outside the fast groove was.
Ronnie Johnson came home in fifth place and told me how much the groove moved around.
Rick Laubach had a sixth place finish and described what happened to him on his lone pit stop.
It was a fun day on the mile track as Super DIRT Week roared on. Billy Decker won the Nationwide Insurance 150 and if he wins the SEF Small Engine Fuels 200 by Ferris and Snapper Mowers today he would do something nobody else has ever done before…sweep the week.
Decker had control of the 150 early beating Andy Bachetti into the first turn and then cruised for the first 34 laps until going in for his first pit stop on the second yellow flag of the race. Eighteen laps later he reassumed the lead when Martin Roy pulled in for his pit stop.
Stewart Friesen did get to his inside on a restart with just two laps to go but Decker was equal to the challenge and went on to win this race for the fourth consecutive time and sixth time overall. And if he wins today’s big block race he would tie Brett Hearn with five victories.
I was able to do interviews with Decker, Friesen and the top six finishers from the event. But with the Safety Kleen Shootout running immediately after the 150, it was tough to get what I got. Things happen so fast at Syracuse and with the races being moved along so quickly due to long extended caution periods, they had no choice but to push, push, push.
I recorded twenty six interviews and saved twelve for release during the week. I also took over 150 photos as I always do a little extra on the Saturday and Sunday of Super DIRT Week. I’ll be doing the same today and will try to squeeze in a few extra interviews as well.

Cody McPherson won the first Sportsman Futures race and told Clinton Geoffrey all about it.
Bobby Hackell got the win in the 2nd Futures Race and explained how getting a lot of laps helped.
Rick Achzet told Paul Szmal about taking 18 years off and winning the Pro Stock Futures Race.

Billy Decker made it two for two on the day with another heat win and talked about night racing.
Billy Dunn led all twenty laps on his way to a win and told me whether it was a surprise or not.
Pat Ward took the win in the final qualifying race and talked about looking forward to Sunday.
It was a fun, fun day at Syracuse as Super DIRT Week XL got interesting with the first races of the event. The Futures started things out and were followed by five qualifying races for Modifieds.
I concentrated a lot on interviews and since it was a night race, we were working hard to make sure we made our deadline at the Syracuse Post Standard which was 10:30. Things did run a little late, but the folks from DIRTcar were great at getting me the access I needed and we got the quotes we needed for the newspaper as well as for this website. Beautiful! Thanks so much guys.
Billy Decker continued his domination as he won both the 358 and Modified qualifiers. Although he was chasing Matt Sheppard in the first one and if Matt did not get a vibration and begin losing oil pressure, you don’t know how that one would have gone. But remember, the top six were locked in regardless of what happened unless they trashed their car and had to go to a back up.
I was able to get all five of the winners as Paul Szaml from DTD and I tag teamed them right when they got out of the car. But again, we would not have been able to do that without Chris Dolack making sure we got the opportunity. It worked out great as I was able to go right back and make sure those quotes made it into today’s paper.
I also got the Futures Race winners as well as three of the top Sportsman qualifiers. It was such a busy day and I was so busy gathering and relaying information it was tough. Today should be a little easier as I have settled into a nice routine but until we raced I could not find a rhythm. There is no place like Syracuse.
I put up some more photos as well as some that J Fish sent in. Earlier I put up a bin from Rick Young who was also there today. I had a great time and even though we were super busy at Super DIRT Week, it is a great time like always.
Today the Nationwide Insurance 150 is on the card and it is going to be a dandy. Plus the Sportsman finish out the day with a 30 lap feature. At night the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series runs at Rolling Wheels along with a win and you’re in Modified race.
